More Than Tea And Scones

Overview

Honest. Heartfelt. Hilarious.

After its 2023 premiere season and whistlestop tour of Far North Queensland’s small halls, More than Tea and Scones, the play recognising 100 years of effort by the women of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QWCA), is back on the road next month, bound for nine stages in the state’s southeast.

Written by award-winning Cairns playwright Angela Murphy of Veranda Theatre, More Than Tea and Scones is a show that could be set in any CWA hall.

“I travelled over 2200km, visited 22 CWA halls across North Queensland and interviewed over 70 women,” said Ms Murphy.

More than Tea and Scones is a theatrical form of storytelling that blends and weaves together the women’s anecdotes to create a funny and insightful piece of theatre.

According to Ms Murphy, the show has broad appeal and will engage anyone who cares about their community.

“It’s an eye-opening revelation into what the women in the CWA do. It will surprise and amaze you,” Ms Murphy said.

“The show is heartfelt, honest and at times hilarious.  It is real stories about real women, making a difference for other women and their communities,” she said.

Between 20 October and 28 October, More than Tea and Scones will visit the CWA rooms, halls, and bowls clubs in Toowoomba, Chinchilla, Roma, Mitchell, Charleville, Lowood, Samford, Oxley, and Redcliffe.
