The Artesian Time Tunnel located in the Cunnamulla Fella Visitor Centre takes visitors on a chronological journey through time in an interactive experience where visitors gain knowledge of the importance of water originating from the Great Artesian Basin which supports our pastoral and mining industries.

Being one of the largest artesian groundwater basins in the world, the Great Artesian Basin covers approximately one-fifth of Australia and ensures security of fresh water for rural and regional areas of Australia.

The Artesian Time Tunnel incorporates a simulation of an old mine lift which takes visitors back in time 100 million years below ground surrounded by ancient sandstone rocks. These sandstone rocks form part of the Artesian Basin. Throughout the makeshift sandstone tunnel visitors are immersed into the age of the dinosaurs that roamed the Eromanga Island Sea many millions of years ago. Followed by a sit down with an original opal miner sharing information through an audio display on opal mining in the region and the "Yowah Nut".

After taking the immersive journey back 100 million years, enjoy a short film on the Great Artesian Basin to further your understanding on this incredibly important resource.
